He was a king at 19 whatttt
The beloved Thai king passed away yesterday. The news of his illness has long been whispered by a good friend (we are both Malaysians but we just happen to like to gossip. That's all) but there was hardly news about it anywhere.
Do you know that the late King Bhumibol took the throne at the age of 19? I may not know much about him but 19? I was too busy crying over my calculus notes at the age of 19.
Although there's not much difference there. He reigned over his subjects (the people) while I was ruled by my subject (calculus). Although obviously I did not succeed with my subject.

Berebut Sudip
' aaaaaa nak!' tiba-tiba bila buat perangai macam tu, teringat masa kecik-kecik dulu.
mula-mula perati mak buat apa. lepas tu makin lama kepala makin dekat.
'eh nanti kena minyak panas!'
' mak, nak!' tangan panjang sahaja menuju ke arah sudip.
sama. tak berubah. kasihan mak. anak dah besar panjang masih mengada-ngada.

Satu hari, cuaca panas terik.
Lalu, kesemuanya hangus. Benar api si gadis lebih kuat. Tetapi menangnya jadi abu.

#1 Conversation with the boss
These days the team leader visits me at the table to talk about cosmetics. I hardly know anything about Bobbi Brown, how do I contribute to conversations regarding comparison of make ups?
I have to go check more on cosmetic stories now. fashion bla bla.

Monday blues
It's Monday morning. Very early morning in fact. You may ask, why am I writing this very early in the morning while I should be worried about the work.
Ah, the perks of working from home.
Just this oneday though .
But that's the thing, the fatigue from the weekend (most probably from going out and such) has spilled over to the oncoming week like a steel freight train. Come 10pm Sunday night, the moodiness and all thegrey clouds gathered above my head (it was just so lucky that I usually ironed my clothes on saturday night instead of the usual schedule of doing so on Sunday). A 10 pm bedtime spilled over to 11pm...11.15pm...11.30pm and so on. Before we know it, it is already midnight and thousands of excuses run in my head to actually take an emergency leave.
But then, we need work to get paying the bills (I'm actually very nervous about the upcoming electric bill. God knows how much it will total up what with the hot weather and all. Theaircond for most of the night since the heat is so suffocating. But on a bright side, the floor dry up faster after I mop it) hence, we just need to drag ourselves off the bed to work. Well, not really dragging myself if I was late.
So here I am. Feeling a bit better for not being at the office now. But still working. Or attempting to start working (ha-ha!)
Just don't tell my boss about this.
So,may be force be with you on this Monday.

Between jealousy and admiration
I have always wondered where some women get their energy from measuring against people's material belongings. This is particularly obvious in a workplace.
If we ask nicely, women will gladly share their beauty tips. But one starts to make scathing remarks, brace ourselves for the aftermath. Amazingly, those who make such scathing remarks are hardly Miss Universe so seriously, what is your motivation.
Women please. We are having a hard time enough being in a workplace. It is already difficult trying to make people listen to us, managing different people at all times and keeping our emotions in check. Why do we have to make it continuously difficult to face the day by being difficult to each other?
It is fine if we are not wearing Braun Buffel handbag yet, it is not the end of the world. We can always work towards the bag. It is also ok if we are yet to be able to afford Tod's shoes but what does it really tell about us when we actually spend time to tell stories that 'she wears expensive stuff but still look as if she's wearing cheap stuff?' It does not actually bode well for our personalities.
Why do we have to measure ourselves over petty little stuff? I'd rather we work towards creating a better work ethic and producing more quality work. We can also work to gain more knowledge while talking about the new eyeshadow we heard available or how we want to try the Louboutin lipstick. But why do we have to continuously focus on petty little stuff over materials that will fade away. In 20 years, the Louboutin shoes may be worn but in 20 years, our little trip of saving money can be passed down to other generations. They why o why do we spend so much time accumulating material instead of wealth of knowledge?
A little jealousy is fine; to drive us to succeed. But what is this determination to roast people just because we admire them, dear ladies? This is so stupid and time consuming.
And aren't we forgetting a little something. Spending time so much focusing on one person; doesn't that show a tiny bit of admiration?

Food will....
Food will not judge me. It accepts me for who I am; whether I'm pear, apple or A shaped. Food will always be there for me, for better or worse.
I can totally rely on food, whether I'm sad or mad. It won't sulk, run or ask for a break.
Food, my true love.
P/S: I probably need to eat now.

what is leadership?
How do we define leadership? Is it:
1)the longest-serving worker in the company?
2)the one with the most contribution in the team?
3)someone who can motivate others and actually do his/ her work?
4)someone closes to the boss?
of course. number 4 tend to be hated. haha . but here's the deal; number 1 may be the obvious choice. most think this should be the case but we forgot something; managing a team of people does require more than a long track record. humans have feelings, emotions and that also mean issues . losing someone close or having a breakup does affect performance in the workplace. now , can someone with a long history with a company tackles this?
a leader embraces the title of being a manager with a huge responsibility. the balancing act between hitting the KPI or ensuring the highest productivity level and at the same time making sure the team still have motivation to carry out the job is not easy. i mean, it should be expected.
in most articles discussing what is desired in a workplace, being a team player is the top priority. now , this means managing several people at once to be working together towards common goal(s). as a clue, this requires a leader to be a people-person, visionary, encouraging teamwork and at the same time having to treat staff as professionals. it is becoming more difficult to draw a line between staying just as workers or becoming friends with people at work. so , there you go; handling the delicateness of managing people.
by motivating people, it's not just towards one goal as a manager must also need to encourage personal growth at the same time. now , how do we do this? it's not quite difficult actually. a manager must be ready to ask questions (and of course, at the same time, be prepared to listen to the answers). here is also where putting teams' need first must be done.
you see, being a manager is never easy. i mean, an efficient one. for as long as i have been working, i 've never heard a manager actually saying ' please stop being demotivated .' (i just did btw) if we see anyone is demotivated , as a manager, it's our job to motivate them.
a good worker is not necessarily a good manager. but a good manager can produce good workers.

Sedangkan tulang empat kerat masih mampu menduga cabaran
Jika pun dicatu emosi celaru, ditunggang nafsu.
Kita..kenapa tidak diisi jeda waktu tanpa terpelongo meraih laba tidak kunjung tiba?

Take control of our dreams and aspirations
I was once told by a friend to not pursue in my studies for languages. It was because she said that studying languages doesn't come with certs while studying for courses will give us an opportunity to work.
I was a bit disheartened and I let her comments affect me. I know I love learning languages, I can grasp it quite fast. But at that point of time (about five years ago), I just thought about working. I put a stop to my language learning and let her comment into my head. I shouldn't have done that.
I travel, sometimes. And having a grasp of languages can give us a certain edge. For example, knowing how to read mandarin can give a certain edge when we are in Japan. Let's not get to being in Japan; it helped tremendously. I only had three months to prepare for Japan when I was there duringwinter for a week. I couldn't get everything but at least when I went to the rural areas, I can understand instructions . That is more than enough to help me move in Kanagawa.
I have been travelling to Indonesia for quite a bit. It does help to greet them in their language and because of that, I have been commissioned quite often by a local company to translate Indonesian materialsto English.
I learnt a bit of French. Although I don't use it much since I haven't been to Europe, it helped a bit when we bumped into French tourists and those from some French-speaking countries.
Not toobad huh ?
Currently, I'm working on Japanese. Yes, there's a lot of ground tocover but what makes it different is I love doing it. I enjoy discovering and learning new vocabulary. To this point, I can read hiragana and katakana. It will only be a matter of time before I can read kanji; I truly believe in that. The reason why I don't enrol in Japanese classes yet is because I want to learn as much as possible on my own, at my own pace.
I have always dreamt of wanting to travel. And with my penchant for languages, I plan to open more opportunities for myself. Although someone commented that languages are not as important as a certificate in ITIL (although, of course, we can alsoenrol in that), I beg to differ.
So there you go. If you like drawing, don't let anyone stop you. Practice withpencil or colours and don't skimp on papers. One day, when you have money , invest in your hobbies. Believe me, you will be needing your hobby. Working is not all fun. An outlet to let all the stress go is very much needed. And turn the hobbies into income, I mean why not? Do you know that you can sell your designs with Society6?
In conclusion, take charge of your dream. If anyone tells us our love to doodle is going to be a waste of time, it's fine. They are entitled to theiropinion but you must take charge of your life.

A bit on Touch and Go cards
Since I work, Touch N Go (TnG) card has become such an important part of my life for both train and RapidKL bus service.
However, I notice most of the riders opt to use cash instead ofTnG when they go on the bus when they can still save using the card. The 20% discount is actually still applicable until now. Although it does not look much, over the course of a month, the savings can actually add up. It is one of the ways for me to save money, not much but still fine.
Apart from usingit for public t , I also use TnG when paying tolls. It is not as fast as Smart Tag but still, can save time by not having to carry a lot of cash; whether notes or coins. Of course, most people don't mind it but I'd rather have my coins put in my safe. Not a big safe but still a safe.
I also use my TnG card for other uses. Once, when the train fare has not been increased, I used my card to pay a meal in Chicken Rice Shop. Of course, you can say I can use my debitcard but I like the act of having another card that I can use to pay for my bill. There's a discount for that but I cannot remember how much.
Now, I can remember the discount for Dunkin' Donuts. It was 10%. There's no minimum purchase with Dunkin' Donuts to pay with TnG, which I like. Yes, just a fewringgit or cents savings but savings are still savings . What I really like about my purchase then was no minimum purchase.
On top of that, I can use myTnG card at MyNewsPlus. I usually disembark at stations with MyNewsPlus early in the morning so I tend to get breakfast from them too. It's early in the morning and sometimes I'm too lazy to fish out my purse out of my bag. As a solution, I just use my TnG to pay for my purchase. It takes only a few minutes and I don't have to struggle with my coins in my purse.
These are some of the things I can do withTnG card . I am sure there are other uses for this card. So, anyone wants to share?
Checkout the benefits at the Touch And Go Personal page for more information.

Sympathy is a powerful tool
These past few days, I noticed something interesting.
There are a lot of people on social media. There a lot of people who want to do good on the Internet. People are trying hard to find something good or give something good. Interestingly, many also see this as an opportunity to take advantage on others.
It doesn't take a lot. All that is needed is a few pictures and a few sob stories. Of course, I'm well aware some of the stories are true. There truly is people with sad stories and really need our help. But the social media is fast becoming a place where people think they can just use people's sympathy to gain something, or specifically, money. I have seen a few posts that requested money for their first cars. I really do hope those are fake posts.
But if it is not, seriously, what made some people think they are entitled to donations for things that they supposedly pay for with their own money?
Listen, how do you think people get money in the first place? There are people who worked the whole day (some the whole night) to earn money for their family and pay debt. And the same people might want to help other people in need or they have a kind heart. The operative word here is 'in need'. Do you think asking for money to buy a new car?
It is bad enough that we have scammers who askfrom money in public places like KL Sentral. Those sob stories like, ' I need RM 10. I just met with an accident and need money for a ride home', ' I need money because I forgot my wallet,' ' I need RM 35 for the ERL ticket because I live in Putrajaya and just lost my wallet.' These are just lies. If they are really in need, there is a police station in KL Sentral. In fact, there are policemen milling around the area.
I know my friend will not agree to this. ' Just give this person a fewringgit . Don't carelah what he does with it.'
This is actually the formula being used by these scammers on the road. I believe if people start saying this, we are just giving birth to more scammers. My father always said, ' if you want to help these people, buy them food instead of money.'
Of course, all of us want to make the world a better place. Of course we want to be there for each other. But we have to do this with caution too. There are people who are really in need and there are also people who are just milking others' sympathies.
Life is bad enough with the inflation and bad economy; it is unfair manipulate the sympathies from Good Samaritans. Everybody issuffering but many are trying hard to survive. We can all do with the extra money but manipulating or worse, lying is not.
I'm ranting a lot on thisFriday but I had to let it out. It saddens me to see young people trying to start GoFundMe for causes that are totally selfish. Please, do it for a good cause. If we cannot help the world to be a better place, just don't be the extra burden.

Book Review: Shadow Play by Barbara Ismail
I'm a huge fan of mystery and thriller. I have quite a collection of James Patterson, use to finish Agatha Christie's when I was in
Set in 70's Kelantan, the story was about how a quiet Tawang was disturbed by the death of one of a wayang kulit musician. The death shocked everybody and ruffled a few feathers. The rivalry between several Wayang Kulit troops got in the way of the investigation, which was greatly helped by a

With the setting in Kelantan, Barbara has managed to paint the pictures beautifully about the people there. Although the Pasar Besar that I know might be a bit modern compared to the one in the book, but it managed to capture the feeling of it.
The flashbacks are nice flowing, the mystery is kept interesting towards the end and the
I strongly recommend this book for someone who wants to read something closer to hope; to at least capture some part of our wonderful Malaysia. The Bahasa Malaysia spelling might be a bit old, but that actually added to the charm of the book. I have nothing more to say, but praises for this book.

Back from Long Hiatus: Again, Interview
So, we have covered the first part of the interview here: First Impression: On Paper.
Still on paper, and it is going to be quite short, I guess.
It is actually best to list down the work experiences as concise as possible. For those involved in jobs like writing or web designing, it is also best to include your portfolio. It is nice and all to hear ourselves talking about our achievements, but a proof will be so much better.
